The thinking.
Stop talking about what AI might do and point it at something that is actually broken.
The challenge
Every company was having the same conversation about AI, and almost nobody was shipping anything with it. Meanwhile there were real problems sitting in plain sight. A giant spreadsheet held data the business needed and almost nobody could actually read it. A CRM migration quietly took away our ability to bill customers. And the CEO wanted a company audio newsletter. One of these I went looking for. Two of them came to me. None of them arrived labelled as an AI project.
My contribution
Three builds, each finished and in use. An inventory and sales intelligence dashboard I built with AI instead of waiting for a development team, because a spreadsheet nobody could read was hiding data the business needed. A statement system that rescued billing after the CRM transition and ran every week for six months. And The Connection, the company audio newsletter, produced with ElevenLabs for voice, Descript for the edit, and a Claude agent I built to pull the whole thing together fast.
The point of view
A tool is worth exactly what it produces. The interesting question was never what AI could theoretically do. It was which problem in front of me it could actually finish, this week, well enough to hand to somebody else.
The making.
Three problems. Three builds.
One argument for the tools.
Turn a spreadsheet
into something
you can act on.
Nobody asked for this one. I was looking at a giant Excel sheet that held real, useful data and was almost impossible to digest, and I wanted to see it simplified. So I built an inventory and sales intelligence dashboard with AI rather than waiting for a development team to be assigned to it. It answers the questions people were already asking: which ranks to push in Q4, where the dead stock is sitting, how country of origin splits between Mexico and the US. Those questions came off a whiteboard in a conference room. Now they get answered on the screen in that room.
A migration broke
the billing.
We changed CRMs and the new system could not process or produce statements. That left us unable to bill customers or collect on invoices, which is about as serious as an operational problem gets. Accounting knew I had been working with AI and asked me to find a way through. I took the raw data IT could give me and built something that parsed it into individual statements, customer by customer, then had it email them out automatically. I ran it every week for about six months. A potential disaster turned into a working process that kept the money coming in.
A newsletter
you listen to.
Our CEO suggested a company audio newsletter. I took the idea and ran with it. The voices are ElevenLabs. The edit runs through Descript. The cover art is AI. And holding it together is a Claude agent I built to help me write, structure, and assemble an issue in a fraction of the time it would otherwise take. Sixteen chapters in the July issue, thirty four minutes end to end. The script, the running order, and the final cut are mine. It is the clearest example I have of using these tools to produce an entire format rather than to assist with a single task.

What it made
possible.
Three problems that were not going to solve themselves, solved.
None of this was a pilot or a proof of concept. The dashboard is on the screen in the room where the buying decisions get made. The statements went out every week for six months and the money came in. The Connection got written, produced, and delivered, sixteen chapters of it. That is the whole argument for the technology as far as I am concerned. Not what it might be able to do one day, but what it has already finished.
A brand to build. A story to tell.
A problem worth solving.
